AGS Tours and Expeditions
The Society offers a range of tours to various destinations around the world. Each tour has a dedicated Leader who will be knowledgeable about the area to be visited and the type of plants to be seen. On long haul trips there are usually two Leaders and/or a Tour Manager. AGS tours are open to members only.
We offer trips to European destinations such as Crete, Turkey, Peloponnese and the Pyrenees. Tours to these areas are often less demanding in terms of the fitness level required, thanks to the use of the various forms of mountain transport. Our Leaders seek out a wide range of plants in very varied habitats.
Our long haul trips offer the opportunity to see a different range of plants in varying habitats. These trips are more adventurous and can require a higher degree of fitness, especially if it is a trip at high altitude. Places visited include China, Bhutan, Tibet, South Africa, New Zealand and South America; all of which have such fascinating flora that return visits are always exciting.
AGS and Merlin Travel Award Reports
Each year grants towards the cost of travel are made to applicants wishing to join AGS Tours. Awards are dependent on the area to be visited yielding information on rock or alpine plants that are generally regarded as hardy in the United Kingdom. The relevance to the applicants' work and/or studies is also considered. It is a requirement of any Award that a written account of the journey is submitted within six months of the Award winners' return. A selection of excerpts from these reports is available by clicking on Tour Reports in the main Tours menu.
