Matthew Jeffery currently works at the Royal Botanic Garden, Kew’s Millennium Seed Bank at Wakehurst, Sussex. He is a UK tree seed collector, providing native tree seeds for conservation, restoration, and research. Prior to this he worked in alpine horticulture at Kew for five years becoming a lead horticulturist on the rock garden. He has a particular interest in alpine and hardy succulents. He is passionate about plant conservation, enjoying giving talks and delivering training sessions to students, volunteers and the public. Matthew is the author of the recently published Kew Gardener’s Guide to Growing Alpines.

His lecture will describe the important conservation work that takes place at the Millennium Seed Bank, with a particular focus on a seed collecting trip to the Austrian Alps.
