November 7, 2020
Content Sidebar

The Seed Exchange is now open for orders – and will remain open unitl 15th Nov 2020! Read on to find out how to order your seed.

Despite the difficulties of Covid-19, this year we have an excellent seed list with lots of choice alpine plant seeds that are not available in the shops.

A huge thank you to our many donors who have made this year’s seed list a fabulous thing to behold!

Choice Selections on the Seed List

We have wonderful selections of Cyclamen, Galanthus, Gentiana, Meconopsis, Narcissus, Paeonia and Primula. Wouldn’t you like to get your hands on some of those?!

We’re also offering our speciality damp-packed Hepaticas, which are not available commercially anywhere else, as well as a special selection of Corydalis (also damp-packed) to set your hearts racing!

Ordering Your Seed

Anyone is welcome to browse the gems on this year’s seed list without ordering seed (you can also download or print off a copy of the list using the same link).

If you’re a UK member, begin your seed order by logging in to your online account, then visit our seed ordering page to make your selections. (Why is the exchange is closed to non-UK members?)

You’ll need to choose 10 first choice options (15 if you’re a donor) and 50 second choice options. Family members can place two orders – one for each person on their membership.

If you need some help, check out these seed ordering instructions or email the office on ags@alpinegardensociety.net for a step-by-step guide.

Paying for Your Seed

Placing an order with the seed exchange usually costs £10. This year, though, we’ve had to adapt the exchange to make it Covid-safe. This has meant reducing the amount of seed you will get in your order from 23 to 10 packets.

As you can imagine, we didn’t feel right about charging you the same amount for half the seed!

So, this year we’ve reduced the price of a seed order to just £5.

Yet, this may leave the seed exchange in a tricky spot next year because it needs a cash injection to ensure it can continue to run.

As such, we’re calling for anyone who would like to support the seed exchange to donate the other £5 they’d usually have spent on seed to save the seed exchange and keep it running in future years!
