Wondering where our 2021 Online Flower Show is? Read on for an update and for details of related initiatives.

Every year, the Online Flower Show kicks off in spring. It invites all Society members to exhibit plants by uploading photos to our website.

This year, you might be wondering where the show is, since it would usually have gone live by now.

Perhaps you have photos of glorious alpine plants in flower ready to enter into the show?

Online Flower Show – Not Going Ahead as Usual

It is with great regret that we announce that the Online Flower Show will not go ahead in its usual format this year.

This is because the software used to run the show is a bespoke piece of technology that requires specialist support.

Unfortunately, this year we don’t have a specialist with the knowledge required to run the show. This is why it is not yet open for entries and why it will not be opening for entries in its usual format at all this year.

We know this will be disappointing for many of our long-standing members who are dedicated Online Flower Show exhibitors. We’re very sorry not to have better news.

However, we’d like to encourage members to continue taking pictures of their fabulous plants ready for two new initiatives that we’re currently preparing for launch.

1. Rock Plants in Flower Competition

The first of these is our ‘Rocks Plant in Flower’ social media competition. We’re planning for this to go ahead towards the end of March 2021.

The competition will run via Twitter and will invite you to enter photos of your plants to be in with a chance of winning a prize.

We’re currently working closely with some of our flower show afficianados to put the competition together.

We’ll be announcing the rules of entry very soon, so keep your eyes peeled! In the meantime, you could prepare by signing up for a Twitter account if you don’t already have one.

Update: The competition is now scheduled to go live on Tuesday 23rd March at 11am. Find out more here!

2. Virtual Flower Show

We’re also working on the possibility of running a replacement for the Online Flower Show.

This idea is still in its infancy at present and is currently being developed in conversation with our Online Flower Show manager.

This competition will not be the same as the Online Flower Show. It should be regarded as a new initiative with a different format for exhibiting and judging alike.

Our hope, though, is that this will enable exhibitors to enter plants into a virtual flower show.

More details will follow as soon as we have them and further announcements are likely to be made in April 2021.
