The close-up picture doesn't do justice to this magnificent plant which was a close contender for the Farrer Medal. It was nearly 2 feet across and covered in bloom. Monocarpic unfortunately - how can a plant that has had such care and attention lavished on it have the nerve to die. Let's hope it sets plenty of seed.
