Cypripedium tibeticum

This magnificent slipper orchid is found locally in montane meadows, at the margins of coniferous and mixed deciduous forest, and more rarely on limestone ledges and screes between about 2300 and 4200 m in Bhutan, Sikkim, Chumbi, and western China (Xizang, Sichaun, Gansu, and Yunnan). It is a very variable species. This picture is taken in Sichaun. Plants in Bhutan have smaller, darker flowers.
