Society Awards at the 2014 AGM

The Lyttel Trophy - Harry Jans
Lyttel Trophy - Harry Jans Harry Jans (left) receiving the Lyttel Trophy, the Society's Premier Award, from the President (David Haselgrove). The Trophy is awarded annually for the recipient's contribution to the world of alpines.

The Clarence Elliott Memorial Award - Robert Rolfe and Jon Evans
Jon Evans, Robert Rolfe awarded for the best article published in The Alpine Gardener in 2013 (Vol. 81),

for their article: ‘Blackthorn’ [June, pages 166-187; September pages 310-329; December pages 412-433]

The Award of Honour - Peter Sheasby
Peter Sheasby for sterling work on behalf of the AGS, not necessarily during the previous year, but over a period of time.

Awarded for Peter's work with the AGS Slide Library.

The Lionel & Joyce Bacon Award - Doug Joyce
Doug Joyce  for the best practical alpine gardening article published in The Alpine Gardener in 2013 (Vol. 81).

Awarded for his article:
‘Learn how to build a stylish slate trough’ [March, pages 22-29]

Local Group Award and Sussex Weald Silver Jubilee Trophy - Mike and Ann Taylor
Mike & Ann Taylor to recognise outstanding service within a Local Group over a number of years, the impact of which is felt more widely than just the local area. Nominations for this award must come from the Local Group concerned.

Awarded for their work in the Bristol Group.

Local Group Award - Sonia and Neville Morris
Sonia and Neville Morris to recognise outstanding service within a Local Group over a number of years, the impact of which is felt more widely than just the local area. Nominations for this award must come from the Local Group concerned.

Awarded for their work in the Birmingham Group.

Local Group Award - Joan Vincent
Joan Vincent to recognise outstanding service within a Local Group over a number of years, the impact of which is felt more widely than just the local area. Nominations for this award must come from the Local Group concerned.

Awarded for her work in the South Lancashire Group.

Other Awards in Absentia
The Kath Dryden Award - awarded posthumously to Ruby Baker
to recognise meritorious work on basic cultivation and/or new plant introduction within a single genus or group of alpine plants, for her work on the genus Galanthus.

AGS Website Award - Ray Drew
for his work on Plant of the Month and the online show.

The Christopher Grey-Wilson Award - Miroslav Řičánek
to recognise photographic excellence in The Alpine Gardener in 2013 (Vol. 81) for the best ’feature’ article that must contain a minimum of ten photographs, for his article: ‘A land of orchids, bulbs and alpines’ [March, pages 76-85]
