December Members' Evening
The December meeting of the North Lancashire Group comprised three short lectures by members.
1.Keith Bankier showed images of the Lake Van area in Eastern Turkey commencing at the city of Van and travelling via the Bendimahi Falls, over the Tendurek Pass (2644m) to Dogubayazit. Keith showed photographs of the many endemic irises of the region togther with Fritillaries, and Ranunuculus species.
2.Carol Kellett provided images of a 3,200 mile journey in China from Beijing to Shanghai and Xian illustrating her talk with photographs of Chinese gardens seen on the tour.
3.Alan Oatway presented a series of images on the Meconopsis collection at Holehird, near Windermere. The collection had examples of species found in the wild including Meconopsis horrida and Meconopsis punica plus many of the 23 cultivars in the collection – e.g. Meconopsis cookii and the yellow Meconopsis paniculata. Eleven of the cultivars had been awarded Garden Merit Status by the Royal Horticultural Society.
Chairman, Frank Hoyle gave the vote of thanks after which members enjoyed festive mince pies and coffee.
