North Lancashire AGS Local Group

The North Lancs group contains a mixture of enthusiasts, some who avidly enter shows & others who shun such activities, some experts in various areas & some just feeling their way, but we all share a passion for alpine plants and warmly welcome others with similar interests.

Meetings are held at  The Methodist Church, Scotforth Road, Greaves, Lancaster LA1 4TE

Winter meetings are usually held on the third Thursday of the month (September to April inclusive) with lectures starting at 7.30pm prompt and the meetings lasting approximately 1 1/2 hours, including refreshments and socialising. Our programme of illustrated talks describes the habitat of some alpines or sometimes more detailed information on how to grow particular plants. Information is shared about the cultivation of more exacting alpines.

There is a nominal admission charge for local group members and visitors are also welcome to attend the lectures. Admission includes refreshments after the talk when there is also an opportunity to converse with members, browse the plant stall (provided by members or the speaker), view plants brought by members or borrow books from the library.

A newsletter is sent out twice a year to local group members. In March each year we take responsibility for the AGS Show and in April we hold our own non-competitive mini-show which allows us to see what others are growing and gives us the opportunity to offer and receive cuttings and seeds to expand our own plant stock.

NB: The venue for the 2015 AGS Show is Kirkbie Kendal School, Kendal LA9 7EQ and not Blackpool as in previous years.
