Trip to Edinburgh Botanic Gardens - May 2015

Final itinerary

26th May

Fly from Stansted airport (08:55 flight) – there is no travel insurance booked as many people will have a policy which covers this already; this kept the price down. Only hand luggage allowed which weighs 10kg, 55cm x40cm x20cm, all liquids in a re-sealable bag 20cm x20cm and passport or photo driving licence for identification.

Coach from airport to accommodation – Now the Premier Inn Edinburgh Leith Waterfront Hotel (they didn’t eventually have enough rooms at the B&B’s, so plan B!).

Drop off luggage.

Same coach back to Edinburgh Botanic (½ hour or so turn-around).

Visit gardens (includes guided tour by John Mitchell/behind the scenes alpine house/prop area)

Bus no 14 or 21, cab or walk ( 2 miles) back to Premier inn for evening meal – some walking is unavoidable at this point due lack of closer, affordable accommodation.

27th May

Breakfast at Premier Inn

9:45 coach from Premier Inn to Cluny House Gardens (including guided tour by David Mattingley, owner of the property)

Coach from Cluny House Gardens to airport (18:45 flight)

Total cost of the trip is now £163 each inclusive of the above – this now includes the meal-deal at the Premier Inn and a guided tour of Cluny House Gardens above the original estimate/itinerary.

What you need to know

You need to get yourself to and from Stansted airport.

The cost does not include lunch on 26th (food is available in the gardens)

We cannot arrange a midday meal at Cluny – it is an unmanned garden with no catering facilities at all – but we are a couple of hundred yards from a supermarket (Asda) at the Premier Inn so you can pick up something the night before or in the morning to take with you.

Entry to Edinburgh Botanic is by donation but there is a fee of £5 (by honesty box) at Cluny (donations are not included in above cost)

To remind you - Cluny garden is set on a hillside so you need to be able to walk a fair distance, much of which involves a lot of steps. There is no alternative to the garden on this day as it is pretty isolated and the coach is only going there; the same one as is taking us back to the airport.
