Welcome to the East Kent Group website

Introduction

We are a friendly group with a wide range of interests. Some of our members travel to far-away places such as China or South Africa to see alpines growing in the wild, some exhibit plants, photos or paintings in the shows and some simply enjoy growing plants, whether they be true alpines or small hardy plants, ferns or bulbs. The group was founded in 1957 and among the founder members were Jack Elliott, Paul Furse and Hilda Davenport-Jones.

We usually meet on the second Friday of the month, from 7.00 pm for a 7.30 pm start at Lower Hardres Village Hall, Hardres Court Road, Lower Hardres, Canterbury CT4 5NP . The annual membership fee is £7; visitors are welcome and can join for the first year FREE.

But please note that in 2018, our October meeting will be a joint one with the other Kent local groups, on the afternoon of Saturday 13th October, at Lenham Community Centre (hall opens 1.30 for plant sales.) On February 8th 2019 we will visit Copton Ash in Faversham to see snowdrops, again in the afternoon, in place of the usual evening meeting. And in May 2019 we will visit Marden Meadows to see the orchids, on a date to be arranged. More details in the Programme of Meetings.

The hall is three miles south of Canterbury just off Stone Street (B2068). Turn east at the Granville public house and it is on the left after about 100 yards.
