HAMPSHIRE

BARON, Caryl & Michael, Brandy Mount House, East Street, New Alresford, Hants., SO24 9EG. A secluded garden of over an acre which is near the centre of the town. On a rich chalky soil which suits spring bulbs, species paeonies and daphnes. National Collections of Daphne and Galanthus. [First two weeks of February for Snowdrops and late April early May for Daphnes]. Dappled shade over woodland plants, new sunny terraces, troughs with alpines including rare small daphnes, gentians & many species of hardy geranium. Alpine houses with an extensive collection of Dwarf Narcissi & European Primulas. Plants for sale. Limited parking at the house. SHORT, Peter & Vera, Longthatch, Lippen Lane, Warnford, Nr. Southampton, Hants, SO32 3LE. 3½ acre garden in the Meon Valley, with the River Meon running through the garden. Several ponds, waterfall pool with Trout, bog garden and wooded area. Numerous herbaceous borders, island beds, Hellebores (part of National Collection), Hostas, Pulmonarias, hardy Geraniums, rare trees and shrubs. Open every Wednesday, 3rd to 31st March inclusive 10.00 - 5.00 pm. Also for the NGS ~ 14th, 21st & 28th March; 25th April; 30th & 31st May and 20th June ~ 2.00 - 5.00 pm.
