PITMAN, Peter & Jill, Mews Cottage, 34 Easton Street, Portland, Dorset, DT5 1BT. Small cottage garden with pond, herbaceous plants, unusual shrubs, including Crinodendron hookerianum and Callistemon. Hellebore, spring bulbs and snowdrops in Spring. National Collection of Penstemon 200+, both species and cultivars in pseudo natural desert setting, 80+ named Agapanthus. The garden with Penstemon featured on BBC2 Gardeners World. Autumn colour includes a large collection of Nerine bowdenii. Teas with home-made cakes. Open under NGS on Sundays, 29th February; 14th March; 18th April; 23rd May; 6th & 20th June; 11th & 25th July; 8th August; 12th September and 3rd October [27th February, 2005] ~ 2.00 – 5.00 pm. Adm. £1, Children free. Situated on the top of the Island, 50 yds past Punchbowl Inn, small lane on the left. Park in main street and follow signs. Set in four acres of land on the edge of the Cotswolds, a visit could be combined with one of the many beautiful places and gardens to see in the area. A wide and exciting range of flowers grown, many of which are not common-place, some for sale. An area has been developed to maintain a collection of plants from Joe Elliott, where the Alpine houses display some fine specimens of Primula allionii as featured on Gardeners World.
