Is an open sunny rock garden or shady moist rock garden the best place? Acid soil or doesn't matter?

Correction

Sorbus potaninii should have read poteriifolia.

An easy plant here in North Wales in full sun or part shade in a fairly poor, gritty soil, pH c. 6.5. I would be surprised if it is intolerant of lime, most sorbus aren't.
