The final East Lancashire Group meeting of the 2015-2016 season took place at Ramsbottom Civic Hall last evening when we enjoyed our annual mini-show, a splendid quiz and a Jacob's Join supper of epic proportions. The event drew an excellent crowd of 46 members and, as always, proved to be one of our most popular evenings.
The mini-show attracted a host of beautiful exhibits from hardy cacti to miniature gardens, from rare South African succulents to tiny Primula scotica, from bounteous dwarf rhododendrons to sinister looking Arisaemas and from delightful bulbs to prize-winning insectivorous gems.
The four main awards were won by John and Clare Dower (Open Section); Alan Elwell (Intermediate Section); Eddie & Nica Jones ('C' Section) and Bob Worsley (Best in Show), with the latter being won with an immaculate pan of the beautiful Pinguicula grandiflora. Certificates of Merit were awarded to Brian & Shelagh Smethurst and John & Clare Dower.
The show was judged (as it has been so often in the past) by the irrepressible Brian Russ from Ormskirk, who has proved to be a true friend of the group on so many occasions. The quiz was arranged and presented by John Dower and the delicious supper proved a fitting end to a splendid evening and a highly successful season. Many thanks to everyone who has contributed to that success over the course of the year.

The first meeting of the 2016-2017 season will be held at the Civic Hall on Monday 12th September 2016 at 7.45pm (Doors open 7pm) and we welcome new members and interested visitors to attend and discover the special ambience that pervades all East Lanc's Group events.

What a super  mini-show - very impressive  and indicative of the number of good growers in East Lancs! From the crowd round the supper table, the spread there was equally  toothsome. Congratulations to all for their winning exhibits.
