The East Lancashire Group were treated to a masterclass in the art of growing flawless cushion plants at their most recent meeting at Ramsbottom Civic Hall on Monday 13th January 2014.

The beautifully illustrated and erudite lecture was presented by Frank Hoyle from Chipping, who certainly knows a thing or two about these high alpine gems, and displayed a relaxed but methodical approach to the cultivation of such demanding plants.

Frank thoroughly entertained the enthusiastic audience and even the most experienced members learned new tricks and techniques to try under their own growing regimes.

The next Group meeting, to be held at Ramsbottom on Monday 10th February, will feature the very popular Digital Photographic Competition, when the audience will be asked to judge eight individual classes featuring a total of 140 images and nine awards will be decided during the evening.

Newcomers to alpine gardening are always warmly welcomed and we can offer free parking, plant sales, refreshments, a raffle and that very special East Lancashire atmosphere.  Doors open at 7pm for socialising and the photographic competition will start at 7.45pm.

A reminder that the Alpine Garden Society East Lancashire National Spring Flower Show will be held at the Riverside Suite, Whitworth Civic Hall, Market Suite (A671) on Saturday 22nd March 2014 from 11.30am to 4pm and will feature the nation's leading exhibitors, nurserymen and judges; over 130 classes; free parking; excellent refreshments; super plant sales; books, seeds, raffle, tombola and so much more … and that indefinable East Lancs flavour.  Everyone welcome.
