I found this plant in my brothers garden some 20 or more miles west of Perth, Scotland. He grows it in an herbaceous border with other plants shielding its visual effect. The leaves are green in summer and dark plum in winter. It can grow eventually to 50cm, is hardy to -15 degrees centigrade and has been awarded the RHS AGM. The photo was taken in mid July, so I think the plant should flower somewhat earlier further south. I have taken cuttings, all of which struck, so its now a patient wait to see how it performs in a pot.
