Lysichiton camtschatcensis

Hardly an alpine although I've seen it in profusion in the Pyrenees, no doubt another Victorian introduction when they took the waters.

Daphne retusa

Thirteen years ago, I planted some Daphne by the front door, just put a pick axe through the hubbard under the gravel, made a three inch hole and dropped the little stick of D. retusa in....a 2" seedling from a 1" pot.

Now, the scent is something you cannot picture, but the bush is 6' across.

You just open the door in the evening and let the scent drift into the house, shame its not a little warmer outside.
