Hardly an alpine although I've seen it in profusion in the Pyrenees, no doubt another Victorian introduction when they took the waters.
White skunk cabbage.
Thirteen years ago, I planted some Daphne by the front door, just put a pick axe through the hubbard under the gravel, made a three inch hole and dropped the little stick of D. retusa in....a 2" seedling from a 1" pot.
Now, the scent is something you cannot picture, but the bush is 6' across.
You just open the door in the evening and let the scent drift into the house, shame its not a little warmer outside.
Two Primula gracilipes.
Seems eaasy to grow.
I bought this one as a small plant from the members' plant sales table at the Pershore Show last year.
I hope nobody has any objections to 'arty' B & W or enhanced images on these pages?
