Class 1 - 6 pans rock plants distinct - Lee & Julie Martin

Let's start with Lee and Julie Martin's six pan entry in Class 1. They can't have had room in the car for much else; the first thing I heard when I arrived was Julie asking for more room on the bench to stage their entry. Pride of place goes to the Farrer medal winner:

This six pan entry also contained the best shrub, Rhododendron Maricee, which was so large that Doug Joyce and I decided not to move it over to the window to take it's portrait; I think Doug took some close-ups in situ.

However, we did take two stunning pans of orchids which were also part of the entry.

This was just one of many fine Cypripediums in the show: I borrowed it to illustrate the size of another:

Many of the other Cyps came from Ray Drew. It would appear from Martin Rogerson's excellent pictures of the show that I missed some, notably henryi and ventricosum. One might well think that Ray specialised in these plants to the exclusion of all else, but at other times of year he demonstrates other specialisms, including erythroniums and gesneriads.
