SHORTLY AFTER ARRIVING HOME - TOTALLY SHATTERED BUT IMMENSELY SATISFIED

Well, the EAST LANCASHIRE AGS SHOW 2011 is over and what a wonderful event it turned out to be. Many congratulations to Carol Kellett and her magnificent team on yet another highly successful show on a glorious sunny day.

We (along with many other willing volunteers) were at the show hall in Whitworth, near Rochdale at 6am to set up the entire event (another function at this popular hall prevented us setting up on the Friday evening) and we were ready to accept the first arrival of plants at just after 7.30am.

First image was taken just prior to judging.

Second image shows a typically colourful show bench.

Image three illustrates a magnificent Pulsatilla grandis 'Budapest' exhibited by Geoff Rollinson that was runner-up to the Farrer Medal plant and gained a well-earned Certificate of Merit.

Image four shows Farrer Medal winner Derek Pickard from Stockton-on-Tees with his incredible Dionysia bryoides.

May I, as chairman of the ELG, thank all the members who contributed to Saturdays show at Whitworth.

We were blessed with great weather, beautiful plants and a really warm and friendly atmosphere all day, but it is only because of the many group members who started at 6.00 am and kept going all day that it was such a success.

The kitchen was busy all the time, with bacon an sausage oven bottom cakes, potato pie peas and red cabbage, and over 350 cups of tea and coffee.

If I tell you that, having closed the show a little before 4.00 pm, the hall was completely cleared by a quarter to five! What a team.

A great day and much appreciated, thanks again to Show Secretary Carol and everyone involved.

While waiting for the pics of the plants here's a class which is very close to my heart. Minigardens.

In Saturdays show there were five gardens - two of which were seen for the first time.

We had two gardens, including one in a broken pot which many felt was worthy of the first sticker, from Mick & Mandy McLoughlin.

Another garden, seen for the first time, was from Peter Hood who has not shown a minigarden before. Great effort Peter - keep going.

Here's to seeing many more exhibitors trying their hand at a class which attracts such a lot of public attention.

Keep 'em coming guys.

JohnnyD.

The gardens are - Mick & Mandys 'cracked pot'. Peter Hoods first timer, Carol Kelletts garden, Mick & Mandys second garden and my own effort.

Let's see lots more.
