Blackpool Show 17 March 2012

The venue will again be Collegiate High School, Blackpool Old Road, Blackpool, FY3 7LS.

Because we are a joint show with The Scottish Rock Garden Club, exhibitors from Tayside to The Midlands will bring along a colourful display of alpine plants, dwarf bulbs and dwarf shrubs.

Over the last few years I have organised an afternoon lecture for all to enjoy. This year Diane Clement will give the lecture entitled ?Hepaticas - a growing obsession?. Everybody attending the show is welcome. Hopefully it will give non-members a taste of the type of lecture we get at our local group meetings.

Breakfast, lunches and afternoon teas will also be available at reasonable cost, including bacon barms, cooks famous hot pot and a selection of cakes.

Several of the top alpine nurseries will bring along a good selection of plants to buy. If you have any spare plants why not bring them along for the member?s plant sales.

The North Lancashire Group would also like to invite anybody staying in the northwest for the weekend to their lecture evening on the Thursday prior to the show. Peter Sheasby will be giving his lecture entitled ?Spring in Western Australia?. Everything kicks off at 7.30 pm at The Methodist Church, Greaves, Lancaster.

I hope you will be able to join us for what will be a great weekend for alpine plants and growers.

Mini-Garden Extravaganza!

Blackpool was the venue for one the best displays of mini-gardens for a very long time.

NINE gardens - yes NINE gardens no less.

Five in the Open, three in B and one in C.

Here are the pictures of the gardens entirely without any attribution as they are all special to someone.

Hope you like them.

Wonderful images John ... and many congratulations on inspiring a revival in miniature gardens with your spectacular and highly successful entries over so many years. Your mastery came to the fore once again at Blackpool 2012 ... another well deserved red sticker in the Open Section.

Hearty congratulations to Show Secretary; Lionel Clarkson and his admirable team on another wonderful event and to the REMARKABLE Geoff Rollinson on YET ANOTHER Farrer Medal exhibit in Saxifraga 'Coolock Gem'.

A batch of images from Blackpool Show 2012 beginning with Farrer Medal exhibit.
