What a nice surprise that John Richards is recalling
his travels in Oregon from more than 10 years ago.
We still feel a bit of chagrin about having taken
John to a couple of trails beside rather steep dropoffs; we had, beforehand, no inkling that heights bothered him.
Just as a small correction, "Losier Loop" refers
to a segment of what is officially known as the
Historic Columbia River Highway, built in the 1910's.
It has been supplanted as a thoroughfare by the
freeway I-84, and the remains of old highway are now
strictly for scenic excursions. The segment
referred to here connects the town of Mosier and
the small settlement of Rowena, traversing the very
scenic Rowena Plateau, and a portion with several
hairpin turns is usually called the "Rowena Loops".
