Variations

Having bought several flowering bulbs labelled N. asturiensis at shows, it soon becomes apparent that there are several variations on the basic description. That at RHS Wisley has the waisted corona but has stems approx. 6"-7"v tall. I have a N. minor that has the size but has slightly glaucous leaves and a slightly waisted corona. Then there is N. asturiensis "Wavertree" - again taller than the classic description. Also, I have a bulbs sold to me as N. asturiensis but, again, taller than the classic 3"-4" So, caution is required if a true N. asturiensis is wanted. It is now considered a sub-species of N.minor.

Narcissus asturiensis above Fuente De.

As soon as the snow had receded in early June 2013 the flowers of N.asturiensis were all around, mainly in the boggier areas.
