Kent Alpine Gardener's Diary

A Study in Green
On our return from the Alsace we arranged to visit Les Jardins de Sericourt, not far from Calais. In the event we were an hour or more late but they made us very welcome and provided a buffet lunch and wine. We had little time to do the garden justice, but these are a few cameos taken then: the mature trees and greenery gave a relaxing feel, though I am not too sure I would want to maintain the clipped box!
Gardens can, often do, have a poetic quality - so without exaggerating too much these are some lines from Browning to introduce the views:
Trees can smile in light at the sinking sun
Just as the storm comes, as a girl would
On a departing lover -- most serene.
