Blue and white under the shade of birch trees
Under the trees, the shrub layer is white Rhododendron, white Ledum, and earlier, white Magnolia stellata. The herb layer is mostly bulbs; Ornithogalum is abundant, topped by Camassia, spanish bluebells, and not quite blue tulips. Podophyllum emodii is below a witch hazel, and Conopodium is tolerated because it is white. Aquilegia atrata complements the tulips, adding a touch of maroon.
